Writing a personal pledge engages both cognitive and emotional processes, reinforcing commitment through embodied cognition. When children visualize their role in environmental stewardship, they are more likely to follow through on their promises.
Try it with your learner
1. Gather materials: A4 paper, colored pens, and a small plant pot. 2. Think about 3 specific actions to help the environment (e.g., reduce plastic use, plant trees, conserve water). 3. Write your pledge at the top of the A4 paper: 'I pledge to...'. 4. Illustrate your pledge with drawings or stickers representing each action. 5. Share your pledge with your family, and discuss ways to follow through. 6. Place the paper next to the plant pot as a daily reminder of your commitment.
