      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging in artistic expression allows children to develop their cultural intelligence through visual representation. According to Vygotsky's scaffolding, sharing ideas about different cultures helps children build connections and enrich their perspectives.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather colorful paper scraps from magazines or old books (at least 5 different colors). 2. Choose a culture or festival that interests you (e.g., Diwali, Eid, Christmas). 3. Research one symbol from that culture (e.g., diyas for Diwali). 4. Draw the symbol on a blank sheet, then cut out pieces of colored paper to fill it in like a mosaic. 5. Share your mosaic with your family and explain what you learned about the culture. 6. What other symbols can you think of that represent different cultures?
