Using the dual coding theory, children visualize emotions while labeling them, reinforcing memory retention. By creating a physical Mood Meter, kids engage in embodied cognition, connecting feelings to real-world expressions.
1. Gather a paper plate, colors, and a straw. 2. Divide the plate into sections for different moods (happy, sad, angry, etc.). 3. Color each section and draw a face representing that mood. 4. Attach the straw to the center as a pointer. 5. Each day, use the straw to point at how you feel and share it with family. 6. Reflect on why you felt that way and discuss it together.
