      The learning connection

Engaging in debates stimulates cognitive flexibility, allowing children to adapt their viewpoints. The use of Vygotsky's scaffolding enables learners to build on existing knowledge through social interaction and feedback from peers, enhancing the depth of their understanding.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Grab a box and fill it with random objects (5-10 items). 2. Choose one item as your debate topic; it can be silly or serious! 3. Write down 3 arguments for and 3 against this topic on paper. 4. Pair up with a family member and take turns presenting your arguments. 5. Listen and respond to your partner’s points. 6. Reflect on what surprised you about the opposing viewpoint.
