      Why It Works

      The learning connection

By combining movement with plotting points, children experience embodied cognition, reinforcing learning through physical activity. The thrill of a treasure hunt motivates them to apply math in a practical context, enhancing retention through excitement.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Draw a large grid on paper (10 squares by 10 squares). 2. Choose 5 items and assign each a coordinate on the grid (e.g., A(2,3)). 3. Mark these coordinates on the grid with X's. 4. Have your child search the house for these items using the coordinates. 5. Once found, write down their names next to the coordinates. 6. Share your treasure map with family and discuss your finds!
