Visualizing food categories leverages dual coding theory, combining colors and nutrition concepts. Children are more likely to remember information when it's presented in both verbal and visual formats, enhancing retention and recall.
1. Gather colored papers and markers in 6 different colors (red, green, yellow, orange, purple, blue). 2. Draw a large circle on a piece of paper and divide it into 6 equal sections. 3. Label each section with a color and its corresponding food group (e.g., red for fruits, green for veggies). 4. Cut out pictures of foods from magazines or draw your own, matching them to the right color. 5. Glue the food pictures into the correct sections of your wheel. 6. Share your wheel with your family and discuss which colors you eat the most and which you can add!
