      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using storyboards taps into dual coding theory, combining visual images with verbal descriptions to create strong mental connections. This approach enhances comprehension and retention of storytelling elements, making it easier for children to express their own ideas creatively.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a blank sheet of paper and divide it into 6 squares. 2. Think of a simple story or a favorite movie. 3. Draw one key scene per square to represent the story's progression. 4. Write a one-sentence caption below each drawing explaining what happens. 5. Share your storyboard with an adult or friend and discuss the story. 6. How would you change the ending? Make a new square for it!
