      Debate encourages embodied cognition, as students physically position themselves to assert opinions. Engaging in back-and-forth exchanges promotes cognitive load management, allowing students to process information actively and react promptly.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Choose a relevant topic for debate with your family, like 'Should homework be banned?'. 2. Divide into two teams: affirmative and negative. 3. Each team prepares 3 key arguments to support their stance. 4. Set a timer for 5 minutes for each team's argument presentation. 5. After both sides present, engage in a rebuttal round of 3 minutes for each team. 6. Vote as a family on which team had the stronger arguments.
