This activity encourages children to reflect on positive experiences, fostering a mindset of gratitude. Physically creating the jar allows them to visualize and appreciate their blessings, enhancing emotional intelligence.
By engaging in the hands-on creation and decoration of the jar, children practice embodied cognition, allowing them to connect feelings of gratitude with a tangible object. Writing their thoughts also utilizes dual coding, reinforcing the concepts visually and verbally.
1. Take a clean, empty jar or container and remove any labels. 2. Gather colored paper or sticky notes and cut them into small squares. 3. Write one thing you're thankful for on each square — big or small! 4. Decorate the jar with markers, stickers, or ribbons for personal flair. 5. Place your gratitude notes inside the jar, adding to it daily or weekly. 6. Share your favorite notes with your family during a meal — what do you appreciate most?
