This activity enhances storytelling through visual composition, allowing children to express ideas and emotions without words. By framing their subjects creatively, children learn to look for meaning in their environment and convey it through images.
Utilizing principles of Bruner's CPA approach, children first engage in concrete experiences (taking photos), then represent their thoughts in pictorial form, before abstracting their narratives. This layered learning embeds visual literacy and storytelling skills.
1. Gather your smartphone or camera and find an interesting spot in your home. 2. Observe the area and identify 3 objects or scenes that catch your eye. 3. Frame each object creatively, considering lighting and angles, and take a photo. 4. Write a short story or caption for each photo, explaining its significance. 5. Share your photos and stories with family members, asking for their interpretations. 6. Reflect on how your views changed by capturing these images.
