      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging in portfolio creation utilizes embodied cognition by allowing children to physically categorize assets. This tactile experience solidifies their understanding of investment diversity, reinforcing concepts through playful exploration.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 10 small items representing different assets (like toys for stocks, buttons for bonds). 2. Draw a large rectangle on paper and divide it into 4 sections labeled 'Stocks', 'Bonds', 'Real Estate', 'Cash'. 3. Place your 10 items randomly in these sections to form a portfolio. 4. Discuss with a family member why you chose each item for its section. 5. Evaluate which section has more items and why that might be a good or bad investment. 6. Track your 'portfolio' over a week and see how many items you want to change!
