Using food as a learning tool taps into embodied cognition, where physical interaction with pizza slices solidifies understanding of fractions. The visual and tactile experience helps children visualize and internalize the concept of parts of a whole.
1. Use a round piece of cardboard to represent your pizza. 2. Draw and color the pizza, then cut it into 8 equal slices. 3. Label each slice with its fraction (1/8, 2/8, etc.). 4. Share the slices with family members, explaining the fractions. 5. Ask each person to take a certain number of slices and see how many are left. 6. Discuss what happens when slices are taken away — how does it change the fractions?
