      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Animating a storyboard illustrates Bruner's CPA approach: children first draw (concrete), then animate (pictorial), and finally narrate (abstract) their stories. This layered understanding deepens their grasp of narrative structure.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Draw a simple storyboard with 5 frames on paper. 2. Create characters using cut-out shapes from colored paper. 3. Position characters in each frame and take a photo of each scene using a smartphone. 4. Use a free animation app to compile the photos into a short film. 5. Add background music or narration to enhance the story. 6. Share your mini-animation with family and discuss the narrative flow.
