Breathing exercises engage the body's sensory systems, fostering embodied cognition. As children observe how their breathing inflates the balloon, they develop a physical connection to their focus, improving their cognitive control.
1. Take a balloon and stretch it gently. 2. Hold the balloon in one hand and take a deep breath in through your nose. 3. Slowly exhale into the balloon, watching it inflate. 4. Count to five as you breathe in and out, aligning your breaths with the balloon's movement. 5. Challenge a family member to join and see who can keep their balloon afloat the longest! 6. Discuss how focusing on the breath made you feel calmer or more alert.
