      Why It Works

      The learning connection

The connection between breath and physical activity leverages embodied cognition, allowing kids to visualize their breath's impact on the balloon. This tangible approach encourages them to practice mindfulness repeatedly, turning breathing into a fun, engaging exercise.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 3 balloons and a stopwatch (or timer). 2. Sit comfortably and take a deep breath together. 3. Inflate one balloon slowly while counting to 5, then tie it. 4. Repeat with the second balloon, but this time count to 7. 5. For the last balloon, try counting to 10 — see how long it takes! 6. Discuss how each breath felt — did you feel calm or excited?
