      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging the body through breathing exercises aligns with embodied cognition principles, reinforcing the relationship between physicality and mental focus. By practicing focused breathing, children can activate their parasympathetic nervous system, reducing anxiety and enhancing attention.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Sit comfortably with your child in a quiet space. 2. Set a timer for 1 minute. 3. Instruct your child to inhale deeply through the nose for 4 seconds. 4. Hold the breath for 4 seconds, then exhale slowly for 6 seconds. 5. Repeat this sequence for the timer's duration, each time increasing awareness of distractions around you. 6. After the minute, discuss how focused breathing felt and any distractions you noticed.
