      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Combining physical action with mindfulness engages multiple senses, which aids in dual coding — visualizing their breath alongside the balloon popping. This active approach helps reduce cognitive load, allowing children to process their emotions and sharpen their focus.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Inflate 5 balloons and place them in a space where they won't bounce away. 2. Stand at a distance and observe the balloons. 3. Take a deep breath in through your nose, focusing on filling your belly. 4. Exhale slowly through your mouth while imagining your breath reaching the balloons, aiming to pop one. 5. Repeat until all balloons have popped, maintaining mindful breathing each time. 6. Reflect on how your breathing changed with each pop — did you feel more focused?
