      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Debating requires cognitive processing of information and organization of thoughts, aligning with Vygotsky's scaffolding theory. The interactive nature of this activity encourages active participation and peer feedback, deepening understanding of diverse perspectives.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a medium-sized box and decorate it with images or words related to your topic. 2. Write down 5 pro and 5 con arguments on sticky notes. 3. Place the sticky notes inside the box — mix them well. 4. Choose a family member to debate with and decide who will argue for and against. 5. Set a timer for 5 minutes and present your arguments. 6. Discuss afterwards — which arguments were most convincing?
