This activity leverages embodied cognition; breathing techniques help stabilize emotions and improve concentration. Focusing on a physical task like keeping a balloon afloat encourages mindfulness, allowing children to immerse themselves in the present moment.
1. Inflate a balloon and tie it securely. 2. Stand in a quiet space with no distractions. 3. Take a deep breath in through your nose for 4 seconds, hold for 4, and exhale slowly through your mouth for 4 seconds. 4. Once relaxed, gently tap the balloon into the air, trying to keep it from touching the ground. 5. Focus on your breathing while tapping the balloon, maintaining a steady rhythm. 6. After 5 minutes, discuss with your family how each breath felt and how it helped you stay focused.
