1. Gather a small container, sand, and various small items (toys, coins, etc.). 2. Bury the items in the sand inside the container. 3. Use a small shovel or spoon to carefully dig out the items. 4. Dust off each item and identify it as a 'fossil' or 'artifact'. 5. Draw a picture of each item found and label it. 6. Share your findings with family and discuss what each item might tell us about history.
