      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Visual storytelling taps into dual coding theory, where children utilize both verbal and visual information to enhance comprehension. By sketching out scenes, they reinforce narrative elements and develop their ability to convey stories effectively.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 5 sheets of paper and your favorite colored pencils. 2. Fold each sheet in half to create 10 frames for your storyboard. 3. Choose a story or create a new one and outline its beginning, middle, and end. 4. Draw a scene in each frame representing key moments of your story. 5. Add brief descriptions under each drawing to explain what's happening. 6. Share your storyboard with Amma or Appa — what do they think?
